However I did get referred by a trainer to Positive Response Canines! I never even spoke with you on the phone prior to my arrival in Tennessee. I didn't know what to expect other than the good things people had told me about your facility. Mark, you were very straight forward with me when I first arrived at training. You took one look at my dog and I and said, " I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is the dog is going to be a good one. The bad news is the handler is terrible, but that's why you are here".
Much to my surprise you and Mark Smith treated me just as good as if I had purchased my dog from you. I got to see first hand that you trained me the same way that everyone else that purchased dogs from you were trained. Enough about treatment, I really need to tell you how the dog changed during the 2 weeks we were there.
His play drive has increased tremendously. When I go to get him out of the car his is almost dragging me to a door, car, box, or whatever he sees that narcotics might be hiding in. We trained with the command "find it" while I was there. Anytime Dusty gets out of the car now he expects to be looking for drugs. The find it command isn't even necessary with him. In the past he wasn't that anxious to search for narcotics. I learned that he wasn't really getting much satisfaction out of it. Before, if he found something he would scratch it once or twice then look at me. Now, if he is inside a car and finds narcotics, he will rip the seat out of the car with his paws and his mouth if you allow him to continue digging to find the drugs.
Besides changing the dog while we were there you and Mark changed me. Now I can testify in court to the hows' and whys' of drug detector dogs. I fully understand how the dogs "sniffing system" operates. I came away with a complete understanding about how the dog is stimulated by certain smells. I can even tell if narcotics are in the area prior to the dogs indication because you guys taught me about dog behavior. Not to mention that anytime I call you I always get answered or you call me right back within minutes.
I could go on and on about things you guys taught me while I was there. But this comes down to 2 things. Should agencies go to Positive Response Canines for narcotic dogs and training? Yes. Should an agency that already has a dog go to Positive Response Canines to train the dog? Absolutely. Mark and Mark I can't say everything I want to say and keep this at decent length, but I will say thanks. I am very appreciative of your expertise and I know my dog is very happy now!
If you have somebody that was in the shape I was in and already has a dog and is unsure just have them call or email me.

Drug Sniffing Dog Training - Handler Certification - Positive Response Canines
Where do I start?  Or what do I say?  Murphy was just an awesome canine to work!!!

I remember the day I came to Jackson and looked for a new K9.  I went to check out a female Labrador.  When I got to your place in Jackson you had Murphy ready for Evansville, IN.  The handler that was going to get Murphy had been promoted and they weren’t ready to pick him up at the time.

You wanted to show me Murphy…  We were parked at your car search area; Murphy was in a shipping crate in the back of your truck.  You told me to go get Murphy and run the cars.  I tried to tell you that I had never handled that dog and didn’t know anything about that dog…  You said, “Just hook the leash and hang on”.  That’s just what I did.  I hooked the leash on Murphy and he took off and searched those cars dragging me around like a toy.  I was impressed!!!!  Then we went to the other side of your training grounds and just turned Murphy loose.  We started walking and then Murphy took off.  He got onto his hind legs hopping like a kangaroo.  We went across about an acre or two before we got to Murphy.  He was jumping up trying to get a small bag of marijuana that was hanging in the tree.  You looked at me and said, “Well boy, what do you think?”  I told you right then, that dog was going home with me.

I took Murphy home and socialized with him for about a week.  I brought Murphy back to you and you finished his training.  I came over to Jackson and certified with Murphy on May 4, 2003.  On my way home I stopped a small pickup, the driver refused consent… Murphy alerted… 50 pounds marijuana, 1 oz cocaine, $2,500.00 cash, and we seized the vehicle.  (K9 bought and paid for itself the same day)

Stats on PRC trained drug dog Murphy
I worked Murphy for almost 6 years during which time we seized more than 7,265 pounds of drugs, over $800,000.00 cash.  We seized numerous vehicles and guns.

There are no words that express what you mean to me.  Not only as an expert trainer but as a true friend!!!  I have called you at all hours of the day and night , even on weekends and you have always been there for me.  I have asked you some of the craziest questions wanting to know that I was doing everything right.  You always knew the answers to my questions, every time.

Mark,
Unlike others that come to your facility to purchase a dog, I already had one that was purchased from another kennel out of state. Several people had warned me that if I already had a dog most trainers wouldn't be very willing to help me out with training due to the fact that most wanted to sell you the dog. I even found that out the hard way. I knew my partner Dusty was going to be a good dog. He had a tremendous play drive and some training, bad training nonetheless, already. I kind of assumed whoever agreed to train my dog and I that I would probably be treated different since I didn't purchase my dog there. Prior to my arrival at your facility, Dusty would locate some narcotics but lacked the intensity that I knew he had for a good positive alert.  I had some days wondering if my dog and I were going to be a good team or just a waste of money.
Dusty's Positive Alert
Mark, I would like to personally thank you for your expertise and overall ability to teach handlers the working knowledge to effectively work a canine to the canine's full potential.

I thank you for Murphy and what you have taught me as a canine handler.  You taught me the importance of training records and deployment records.  It has been documented in both State Court and Federal Courts that no attorney would ever contest Murphy because of his training records, deployment records, and most of all seeing him on video doing what he does best without the handler’s involvement.

As you know after twelve (12) years of handling two (2) Labradors, I am now partnered with a dual purpose Belgium Malinois.  It is different than working my other two (2) canines but the basics & paperwork have remained the same.
